FLAIR: Filipino Leaders in Advancing International Reputation

The various ranking exercises conducted by global higher education data providers have been instrumental in establishing benchmarks for academic preference as well as introducing a competitive market into higher education. The effect of the results has been crucial, not only in terms of quality assurance but on the institution’s reputation as a whole.

In view of the positive impact of these ranking exercises on the global reputation and competitiveness of Philippine HEIs, CHED has proactively conducted orientations, masterclasses, and workshop sessions to encourage the Philippine HEIs’ participation in said exercises.

Last 27 to 30 June 2022, the office of the International Affairs Staff, in collaboration with CHED Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) conducted a masterclass on international rankings and ratings in Paragon Hotel, Baguio City.

The 3-day event was attended by nine higher education institutions in the region aiming to improve their university branding and profile in the international community.

Last 08 to 09 November 2022, the second FLAIR Masterclass was held at the Monarch Hotel, Calasiao, Pangasinan by the Office of the International Affairs Service (IAS) in collaboration with CHED Regional Office I. 

Twelve (12) Philippine higher education institutions in the region were invited to encourage and assist in developing a university brand and learn more about international academic reputation through participation in international league tables. 

12 Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Region I who participated in the 3-day session:

  4. Lorma Colleges
  5. Northwestern University
  6. Saint Louis College
  7. University of Northern Philippines
  8. Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College

  10. Pangasinan State University
  11. Panpacific University
  12. Universidad de Dagupan

Last 06 to 07 September 2023, the 3rd FLAIR Masterclass and Orientation was held at the Parklane Hotel in Cebu City though the initiatives of the International Affairs Service in collaboration with CHED Regional Office VII.

Thirteen (13) higher education institutions participated in the two-day activity and worked together as they prepare to engage in an international ranking exercise to elevate the global reputation of their respective institutions as well as the Philippine higher education sector.
